El Dali Oberon 1 is a ultra compact bookshelf speaker. Its enclosure size allows for an optimal balance between interior volume for bass performance and a compact appearance for easy integration, ideal for smaller rooms, discreet audio setups or wall mounting. It features the same oversized 29mm ultra-light soft dome tweeter. of its bigger brothers, and a 5,25" SMC-based wood fiber woofer to handle the mids and bass. The Oberon 1 is based on Dali's most innovative ideas, traditions and inventions, all wrapped in a slim and compact design.

The driver materials, crossover design and geometry applied in Dali's Oberon series have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern. This ensures well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significantly off-axis angle. An added benefit is the severely reduced harmonic distortion and diffractions that cause frequency distortion. That's why all Dali speakers are not designed to have to be placed in a specific position.
Contemporary design
The rounded edges and rustic fabric of these new Dali front grilles add a more contemporary visual image to the Oberon series. This look is enhanced by the elegant aluminum formed base mounted on the two column models.
wood fiber cone
The Oberon woofer has a wood fiber cone with a mixture of fine-grain paper pulp, reinforced with wood fibers, which create a rigid, light and very well-performing structure. Combined with a low-loss envelope and spider suspension, this cone reproduces the micro details of the signal without filters and with great precision.
Patented SMC
The iron pole piece of the Oberon woofer magnet is topped with a patented SMC disc, minimizing the negative effects of iron. The use of SMC disc greatly reduces mechanical distortion, which lowers third-order distortion. This allows for greater listening pleasure, a relaxed midrange, and a surprising amount of detail for this speaker's price point.
Details of the Dali Oberon 1
Given its ultra-compact size, the Dali Oberon 1 is the smallest addition to the Oberon line. The enclosure size allows for an optimal balance between interior volume for bass performance and a compact appearance for small rooms, discreet audio setups or wall mounting.
As with its older siblings, the Oberon 1 makes use of an ultra-lightweight 29mm soft dome tweeter. to handle the highs and detailed mids, while the 5,25" SMC-based wood fiber woofer displays the mid-bass and well-synchronized lows. With the launch of the Dali Oberon series, the best components have been selected of existing speakers and have been brought together in a series that offers sound quality, aesthetics and versatility.
The compactness of the Oberon 1 makes it easy to integrate into any room. To achieve a wide dispersion pattern in the listening area, the driver materials and geometry applied in the Oberon 1 have been carefully chosen. The same principles have been applied in the design of the crossover.
As a result, you'll experience well-integrated sound, even when positioned at a significantly off-axis angle. This is important since you are typically not sitting in a direct line with your speakers when listening to music. Another benefit is the severely reduced harmonic distortion and diffractions that cause distortion at frequencies, since these will always be stronger in an on-axis response. This is also the reason why with Dali speakers you don't have to place them in a specific position and angle.

Woofer
The 5,25" low-loss woofer used in the Dali Oberon 1 has been optimized with a new wood fiber structured cone. It is dedicated to reproducing the delicate midrange and bass frequency area, just like any other driver made by Dali. It is constructed from a blend of fine-grain paper pulp and reinforced with wood fibers, which create a rigid, lightweight and well-performing structure. In combination with a low-loss wrapper and a suspension in spider, this cone reproduces the micro details of the signal without filters and with great precision.
The membrane ends with a rubber wrap that has been chosen for its soft and very flexible properties. This gives the membrane freedom of movement with a very low damping effect, and leaves the magnetic motor to control the movement of the membrane.

SMC
With the use of SMC in the Dali Oberon 1 woofer, mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents is greatly reduced. These improvements to the magnetic motor system result in a decrease in third order distortion. This allows the Oberon 1 to present longer listening pleasure, a relaxed midrange and a surprising amount of detail.
The magnetic motor itself consists of a large ferrite magnet that surrounds a pole piece made from a unique combination of iron and SMC. Iron ferrite forms the lower base of the polar cylinder, topped with a 10 mm disc. from SMC. This combination minimizes the negative effects of iron, while placing the SMC disc right in the main working area of the 4-layer voice coil. This placement ensures maximum effect of the SMC on the voice coil environment, resulting in a highly improved constant flux field.

The ultra-lightweight 29mm soft dome tweeter. used in the Dali Oberon 1 is built by Dali and has been developed specifically for the Oberon series, combining well-proven technologies applied in the brand's other series with new features.
The large size of the cone allows the tweeter to generate higher sound pressure with less excursion, keeping voice coil movement to a precise minimum.
The oversized 29 mm membrane. It is constructed based on an ultra-lightweight corrugated fabric and has been further optimized for greater bandwidth in its lower frequency area. This ensures optimal delivery from the midrange woofer to the tweeter, creating a balanced, unforced and highly coherent midrange. Compared to most soft dome tweeters on the market, the Dali dome material is less than half the weight (0,060 mg/mm2).
The tweeter faceplate near the dome has been designed with a geometry similar to that of the series tweeters. Opticon y Rubicon to create optimal working conditions for the soft dome. The goal is to combine an extended frequency response with wide dispersion and little coloration.

Case
The case of the Dali Oberon 1 is constructed from a high-density CNC machined MDF board, dressed in a carefully selected high-grade vinyl. The rigid construction of the Oberon 1 is due to its solid clamps throughout its interior as reinforcement. This contributes to rigidity and virtually eliminates resonance within the case.
To optimize timing, the speakers are filled with acoustically absorbing material internally along the sides, top and bottom. This creates more direct contact between the woofer and the bass port. The audible result is tighter bass and increased "attack" in the mids.
The bass ports are located at the rear of the Oberon 3, optimizing room integration using the wall for better bass performance.
With the Oberon series, Dali introduces a new front grille design. The new rounded front grille adds a lighter and more contemporary look to this series of speakers. The standard one that comes with the light finishes (White and Light Oak) is in "Mountain Gray", while it comes in "Black Shadow" in the dark finishes (Ash Black and Dark Walnut).

Tiny but they sound better than many larger ones I've heard. Recommended.
Heard in the store with a Cambridge. They told me to wait for the VAT-free days that were scheduled that week.
