El Audio-Technica AT-LH13H is a turntable headshell de 13 gr belonging to the LH series of Audio-TechnicaIt is designed to connect capsules MM and MC type to turntable arms with standard mounting SME (½")including most Technics-type tonearms. It's a solid option for audiophiles looking for a well-built headshell without needing to go for the premium wired versions in the range.
Construction in hard anodized aluminum
The AT-LH13H is manufactured in hard anodized aluminum, a material that combines structural lightness with sufficient rigidity to minimize unwanted vibrations during disk reading. This type of alloy is common in mid-to-high-end headshells because it offers an optimal balance between mass and damping capacity. Hard-anodized aluminum, unlike conventional aluminum, has a denser and more resistant surface, which helps to control mechanical resonances that could color the signal before it reaches the preamplifier.
Does the headshell material really matter? In a turntable system, any vibration other than that of the record groove is misinformation. A rigid, well-damped headshell ensures the cartridge reads only what it's supposed to read: the music.
The result is a compact and functional construction It adds no unnecessary mass to the system and withstands continuous use without degrading. The anodized finish also protects the aluminum from corrosion and minor impacts encountered in an audio rack.

Outstanding Features de Audio-Technica AT-LH13H
It perfectly aligns the needle, optimizing disc reading and reducing wear.
Ideal for most arms, it ensures accurate tracking and improves frequency response.
Compatible with capsules Audio-Technica VM95, VM500/VM700 and OC9X (MC) for easy upgrade.
Reduces unwanted vibrations for a cleaner, more detailed sound.
Weight 13 grams
The AT-LH13H weighs exactly 13 grThis is a value in the mid-range for headshells available on the market. This figure is not arbitrary: the weight of the headshell directly affects the total effective mass of the armwhich in turn determines the resonant frequency of the arm-capsule assembly. With 13 grThis headshell is compatible with the vast majority of modern MM and MC cartridges without requiring any extreme counterweight adjustments. Its neutral weight is sufficient to work well with lightweight cartridges like those in the series. Audio-Technica VM95 and also with higher compliance MC models.
A headshell that's too light can shift the resonance towards problematic frequencies. One that's too heavy can limit compatible cartridges. The AT-LH13H occupies that balance point, covering the 90% of typical setups without complications.
If you already have a capsule and are unsure about compatibility, the weight of 13 gr This is information that your tonearm manufacturer will also use to guide your choice.
Compatibility with MM and MC capsules
The AT-LH13H is compatible with a wide range of turntable cartridges. Specifically, it is designed to work with:- Series Audio-Technica VM95 (general purpose MM capsules)
- Series VM500 and VM700 (mid and high range of Audio-Technica)
- Series OC9X (moving coil MC capsules)
- Any capsule of 4 pins with standard threaded body
The assembly is standard. 1/2" SME, which is the most widespread in domestic turntable tonearms, including Technics-type tonearms present in SL platforms and in numerous clones and derivatives.
This wide compatibility makes it a practical option if you have or plan to have several cartridges in rotation, as you can prepare each headshell with a different cartridge and switch between them in seconds, without touching the tonearm adjustment.
The internal wiring is OFC (oxygen-free copper)which offers good conductivity and low contact resistance, suitable for transmitting the very low level signal generated by an MC capsule without adding appreciable noise.
Azimuth adjustment and vibration control
One of the most important functions of the AT-LH13H is the ability to adjust the azimuth of the mounted cartridge. The azimuth is the angle of rotation of the cartridge body relative to the record groove. If this angle is incorrect, the left and right channels will not be read symmetrically, resulting in level differences between channels and potentially degrading the stereo image significantly.Basic headsets don't have this adjustment, so you have to assume the capsule comes perfectly aligned from the factory. In practice, this isn't always the case. The AT-LH13H allows you to manually correct this misalignment and lock it in place once you've found the correct point.
The design also incorporates mechanical resonance controlThis means the headshell's structure is designed not to act as a resonating chamber that amplifies unwanted vibrations from the tonearm or the surrounding environment. This is especially important if your turntable doesn't have sophisticated vibration isolation.
Along with the azimuth adjustment, this feature puts the AT-LH13H clearly above the standard input headshells included with many turntables.
Installation and box contents
The AT-LH13H includes everything needed to mount the cartridge and attach it to the tonearm without any additional tools. In the box you will find:- mounting screws to attach the capsule to the headshell
- Washers adjustable for different body thicknesses
- Allen wrench for azimuth adjustment
The installation process is straightforward: connect the four wires of the cartridge to the pins of the headshell respecting the standard color assignment, screw the cartridge in with the included screws and screw the headshell onto the arm until it is firm.
The azimuth adjustment is performed by slightly loosening the side locking screw with the included Allen wrench, rotating the cartridge until the cantilever is perpendicular to the groove, and then tightening the screw. No specialized equipment is needed for this step, although having a goniometer or phase analysis software will help fine-tune the result.
The arm is attached using the standard method. SME ½"Therefore, the headshell change process takes only seconds once you have several headshells prepared.
